Features and Benefits of Low Profile Bed Rails If your mattress is too tall, you can use low profile bed rails to lower your bed up to 3 inches. We often hear customers complain that their mattresses are so tall that they cover their headboards and even their footboards. If you have both a headboard and a footboard and you want to lower your bed, our low profile bed rails may be just what you need. We stock two types of low profile size bed rails: hook-on and bolt-on. Following is a description of each type: - Hook-on bed rail sets have two hook-on prongs on each of the four corners of rails.
- Bolt-on bed rail sets bolt on to your existing headboard and footboard using. See a close-up view of typical bolt-on brackets that are on the ends of each bed rail.
- Shown below is the hook-on drop rail head/footboard brackets. They easily hook in to your headboard and footboard, and your box spring rests on the rail about 3 inches below!
 - The bolt-on system (not pictured) works the same way, except the head and footboard brackets have elongated bolt-on plates, rather than hooks for attachment. Our low profile bed rail systems require both a headboard and a footboard.
