Benefits of Center Supports for Metal Side Rails Generally, if you refer to the warranty card provided by the manufacturer of your mattress and box spring set, you will see that most mattress manufacturers do not require extra center support on twin, twin XL, and full size beds. However, you might choose to add a center support or supports to your bed if you have very heavy bedding or just feel like you might need extra support.
